Trend Setter: Fred Roedel III and David Roedel

Monday, November 1 2004 - Business NH Magazine

THE RESUME: Fred and David Roedel come from a hotel management family. Their father, Fred Jr., started the Wilton based Chalet Suisse hotel chain in 1968. Fred Roedel III graduated from Norwich University in Norwich, Vt., earned his MBA from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. and was an investment banker for 10 years before working for Chalet Suisse. Meanwhile' David graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., upon which he immediately worked for the company's marketing department. Since their father sold Chalet Suisse in 2000, the brothers have run Roedel Partners - a real estate and hotel management development firm with hotels in New York and Massachusetts. The company remains a family business with their father and sister involved. Roedel Partners LLC will also build hotels in Manchester near the waterfront stadium and in the former Pandora Mill building.

BIGGEST CHALLENGE: "For a small company like us, it's always a challenge to raise the money and find the right sites," Fred says. "We knew the business, but we're a growing company, so it is important to manage and sustain efficient growth," David says. The company builds and runs both franchise and independent hotels. Along with the Manchester properties, the Roedels expect to begin hotel projects in Boston, East Windsor, N.J. and on the campus of James Madison University in Virginia.

COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY: The company is active with Daniel Webster College in Nashua, the Boys and Girls Club in Nashua and the NH Charitable Foundation. The brothers are also active with their high school alma mater, Bishop Guertin, where David is a football coach.
