MANCHESTER - Big things are happening in this city by the river, and Roedel Companies LLC is a major part of it. The Wilton, NH based hotel company is a full-service, real estate development and hospitality management firm that builds, owns and operates commercial hotels and government lodging facilities throughout the Northeast. Included among its properties is the now under construction Hilton Garden Inn adjacent to Manchester's new minor league ballpark - home to the Fisher Cats, New Hampshire's Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.

When completed later this year, the multi-million dollar Hilton Garden Inn project will be a six-story, 127- room hotel that will make the backdrop for the ballpark. The hotel will be the company's third commercial hotel.

Roedel Companies LLC is overseeing general contracting and will manage the hotel through its management company, Granite Lodging Group LLC. Site work was subcontracted through TRB Development of Hooksett, and the project was designed by BMA Architectural Group of Amherst.

"We're very excited to be part of this rejuvenation of Manchester, specifically downtown Manchester, which has undergone a major revitalization in recent years with the opening of the Verizon Center " said company partner David Roedel. Roedel, 34, is the son of company founder and managing member. Father Fred Roedel is a former cookie manufacturer who founded Chalet Susse International in 1969 in Nashua. He sold the multi-unit hotel company in 2000, after which Roedel Companies LLC was founded. In addition to Fred and son David, other family member partners include son Fred III and daughter Susan Pollio. Other key corporate personnel include Brian Dooley, the managing member of the firm's management company, Granite Lodging; and Robert Kukish, the director of construction.

"There has been no new hotel in downtown Manchester since 1985 when what is now the Radisson opened as the Holiday Inn. All the other hotels in the city have been centered near the airport. So we are excited to be part of that revitalization in what has been a public-private partnership between developers, the city and the Fisher Cats," said Roedel, who, like his dad, is an avid baseball fan. In addition to developing, constructing and managing its own portfolio of hotels, the firm offers a full range of hotel development services to hotel investors including site selection and permitting, construction financing, franchise selection, design and construction management and hotel management.

The new hotel will cater to the business traveler and downtown visitor. Rates are expected to be $120 to 130 per night. The hotel will include an indoor pool, with an outdoor home-plate-shaped hot tub overlooking the stadium. All guest rooms will feature microwaves, refrigerators and a coffee maker, and will be set up for Internet and wireless access.
